Freyna Build Guide: The Toxic Queen of The First Descendant
Freyna is a character who specializes in toxic damage, making her a formidable force on the battlefield. In previous betas, I managed to get her DoT damage to tick for 250,000, and I’ve been able to recreate that build in the current game. This guide covers all aspects of building Freyna, from her abilities to her gear and mods.
Understanding Freyna’s Abilities
Poison Skills Overview
Freyna has four main skills, three of which are focused on toxic tech damage, and one provides a defensive buff. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Toxic Trauma (Skill 1): This is your primary skill for poisoning enemies. It has a low cooldown, allowing you to use it frequently. It inflicts poison on nearby enemies, dealing 10% of your skill damage directly and 60% as poison over 13 seconds.
- Putrid Venom (Skill 2): This skill creates a toxic swamp that poisons enemies who pass through it. It’s an excellent tool for crowd control and spreading poison.
- Venom Baptism (Skill 4): This is Freyna’s ultimate skill. It deals 80% skill damage directly and 471% poison damage over time if an enemy dies near the target. Each bullet from this skill deals 269% skill damage, making it a powerhouse for both mobbing and bossing.
Key Mechanics
Freyna’s damage output increases significantly when she poisons enemies near high-priority targets. This means you should aim at weaker enemies near stronger ones to maximize your damage output.
Building Freyna for Maximum Damage
Core Build Components
Reactor and Exter Components: To maximize Freyna’s damage, focus on obtaining a General Rounds Toxic Tech Reactor. Unfortunately, this specific reactor is not always available due to the game’s rotational reward system. Keep an eye on the schedule for when it becomes available.
For now, I’m using a Handgun Toxic Purple Reactor with Toxic Skill Power Boost Ratio and Tech Skill Power Boost Ratio. Ideally, you’d want a reactor with additional attributes like range, duration, skill cost, or skill crit.
Weapons and Mods
Mobbing Weapon: The Fallen Hope
The Fallen Hope is an excellent weapon for mobbing, thanks to its unique ability, Perdition. When you hit a poisoned enemy, you get a 10% damage bonus, and killing poisoned enemies triggers poison explosions. This creates a chain reaction of poison explosions, dealing massive damage.
Core Mods for The Fallen Hope:
- Rifle Reinforcement: Increases damage.
- Fire Rate Up: Enhances fire rate to proc poison explosions more frequently.
- Action and Reaction: Increases base damage.
- Toxic Enchantment: Adds poison damage.
- Toxic Gun Barrel: Boosts damage of toxic enchantment.
Additional Recommended Mod:
- Toxic Conductor: Increases damage against poisoned enemies. Farm this from Hard Devour.
Bossing Weapon: Python (Optional)
The Python is a great bossing weapon that decreases the target’s toxic resistance, amplifying your poison damage. While I haven’t farmed it yet, it’s an essential part of Freyna’s best-in-slot bossing setup.
Mod Setup for Freyna
Mobbing Setup:
- Contagion: A must-have mod. When an enemy inflicted with Toxic Trauma is killed, it spreads poison to nearby enemies. This significantly increases your damage and poison spread.
- Nimble Fingers: Reduces cooldowns, allowing you to spam abilities.
- HP and Defense: Increases survivability.
- Skill Expansion: Increases range for abilities.
- Tech Specialist: Boosts damage of the four, two, and one skills.
- Toxic Specialist: Increases base damage.
Alternative Mods:
- Focus on Toxic: Provides toxic power and skill cooldown.
- Focus on Tech: Adds extra power and skill cooldown.
Bossing Setup: For bossing, there are two approaches: pure damage and ranged bossing.
Pure Damage Bossing Setup:
- Skill Insight and Front Lines: Increases skill crit damage and chance.
- Skill Extension: Increases the duration of the four.
- Tech Specialist and Toxic Specialist: Boosts damage.
- HP and Defense: Ensures survivability.
Ranged Bossing Setup:
- Nimble Fingers and MP Conversion: Reduces cooldowns.
- Contagion and Skill Expansion: Spreads poison to bosses from nearby enemies.
- Tech Specialist and Toxic Specialist: Increases damage.
External Components
Venom Essence Set Farm the Venom Essence Set from the Hard Mode Swamp Boss. This set boosts toxic skill power and enhances your rifle’s effect trigger rate, providing significant damage increases. However, be cautious with the full set as it might lower your HP drastically.
Support Sensors I recommend using a Max HP support sensor with MP recovery in combat and character XP gain. This provides passive Mana regeneration and increases survivability.
Conclusion
Freyna is a highly versatile and powerful character when built correctly. Her ability to deal with massive poison damage makes her a valuable asset in both mobbing and bossing scenarios. While she requires significant investment, the payoff is immense, offering one of the most satisfying and visually impressive gameplay experiences in The First Descendant.
