Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 has introduced some exciting changes to the loot pool, particularly in the shotgun category. The available shotguns include the Hammer Pump Shotgun, the Gatekeeper Shotgun, the Combat Shotgun, and the Mythic version of the Frenzy Auto Shotgun. While every shotgun has its strengths and weaknesses, I’ll be focusing on the ones that stand out the most in the current meta.
The Hammer Pump Shotgun: Not the Top Choice
The Hammer Pump Shotgun has been around for two previous seasons, and unfortunately, it hasn’t dominated the meta. One major drawback is the frequent reload bug that plagues its usage. Given this inconsistency, the Hammer Pump is often overshadowed by other shotguns in the loot pool.

The Gatekeeper Shotgun was the meta shotgun last season, and it’s still a solid choice in the current loot pool. With its high damage potential and quick fire rate, it excels in close-range encounters, which are common in Fortnite due to the game’s high mobility. The Gatekeeper’s damage stats remain unchanged from last season, making it a reliable option for those looking to maximize their damage output in short bursts.
The Combat Shotgun: A New Contender
The Combat Shotgun is a new addition this season, though it is a revamped version of a weapon we’ve seen in previous chapters. It features a high fire rate, good range, and a tight pellet spread, making it a consistent performer. However, its damage potential isn’t as high as the Gatekeeper, which limits its effectiveness in certain situations. The Combat Shotgun shines in medium-range engagements but falls short in delivering the devastating blows needed in close-quarters combat.
The Frenzy Auto Shotgun: Mythic Only
The Frenzy Auto Shotgun, particularly Oscar’s Mythic version, is another interesting option. All other rarities have been vaulted, making the Mythic version the only one available. You can obtain it by dueling Oscar at Classy Court. Despite its nerfs from previous seasons, the Frenzy Auto Shotgun still offers a decent fire rate and acceptable range. However, it doesn’t quite match up to the Gatekeeper in terms of raw damage potential.

Based on the current meta and my personal experiences, I believe the Gatekeeper Shotgun remains the best choice for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3.
